Link to Server Interrupted
Hi Client Pc with Win7 Pro with network server (R2008 Foundation). Once is a while, the connection to the server share is disconnected. It will show in Windows Explorer with the network shares with a red cross. But when you click on it, the cross disappears and all is normal. Not an issue if we are exploring the server but to the Access application which queries the back-end database, it throws error messages of "Disk or Network Error". I will need to close the application and reopen them to use them. It only happens to win7 clients but not w2k and winxp clients. Yesterday, when I inserted a corrupted disc into the CDrom, it hung as expected, but the whole network share lost connection to the server with the crosses. Fixed only when I removed the cd. Does anyone has this issue? If so, how are we able to overcome it. Actually, I have looking for an answer to this for over a year already. Many thanks in advance Richard

Hi Richard, Its a known issues in windows 7 and server 2008. Please follow the below link to resolve the issue. This behavior occurs because the systems can drop idle connections after a specified time-out period (by default, 15 minutes) to prevent wasting server resources on unused sessions. The connection can be re-established very quickly, if required. Hi Richard, Did you check the registry keys mentioned in the article? Can you try the command line method or the registry modification method. To change the default time-out period for the autodisconnect feature of the Server service, open a command prompt, type the following line, and then press ENTER net config server /autodisconnect:<var>number</var> where <var style="color:#333333;font-family:'Segoe UI', Arial, Verdana, Tahoma, sans-serif;font-size:13px;line-height:normal;text-align:left;">number</var> is the number of minutes that you want the server to wait before it disconnects a mapped network drive. The maximum value for this command is 65,535. NOTE: If you set the autodisconnect value to 0 (zero), the autodisconnect feature is not turned off, and the Server service disconnects mapped network drives after only a few seconds of idle time. To turn off the autodisconnect feature, open a command prompt, type the following line, and then press ENTER: net config server /autodisconnect:-1 Regards, Rafic If you found this post helpful, please give it a "Helpful" vote. Hi Richard, If none of the above suggestions worked, try the EnablelinkedConnections registry. It solved my issue earlier. http://answers.microsoft.com/en-us/windows/forum/windows_7-networking/mapped-network-drive-is-connected-but-shows-as-not/4ac5ff92-863c-4921-8632-e38cbd136fb4 try mwalkersa reply.Regards, Rafic If you found this post helpful, please give it a "Helpful" vote.
