Large (1.5T) SATA Disks
I added a 1.5T SATA drive to my machine but I cannot access more than 1000G. Windows sees two partitions but I cannot do anything with the second partition. Also, I cannot add a drive letter to the first partition. It responds with an "Invalid parameter" error when I try. If I try to convert it to a dynamic disk, I get the error "The operation is not supported by the object.". Does anyone have a solution to this problem? The drive is a Seagate ST31500341AS and I believe that it has the later firmware. Thanks

Hi,
I added a 1.5T SATA drive to my machine. This means now you have two hard drives on your machine, right?
I cannot access more than 1000G. What does this mean? Does it mean that if you create three partitions (each 500G) on the drive, only two partitions can be accessed?
Windows sees two partitions but I cannot do anything with the second partition. Does the two partitions you mentioned are on this SATA drive? How many partitions have you created on this SATA drive? What are their sizes?
Also, I cannot add a drive letter to the first partition. Whats the current drive letter of this partition? If without a drive letter, how do you access this partition? Mounting a folder?
What operating system are you running now?
Could you please also send me a screenshot of the Disk Management window?
1. Click Start, (click Run,) type diskmgmt.msc and press Enter.
1. Maximize the Disk Management window and then press Print Screen (Pr Scrn) (next to the F12 button) to capture a screen shot.
2. From Start, go to Run, type "MSPAINT" (without the quotation marks) in the Open box, and then click OK.
3. Use Ctrl + V to paste the screen shot to the canvas.
4. From the File menu, go to Save and save as a JPG file and send to https://sftus.one.microsoft.com/choosetransfer.aspx?key=813a177b-5367-4af4-aade-676733778ba8

Yes, I now have two physical drives (160G & 1.5T)Two partitions on the 1.5T drive. The biggest partition I could create was 1000G and I can do nothing with the rest of the drive. I cannot create another partition using the rest of the drive. The second partition is 397.26G.I can only mount the partition, I cannot assign a drive letter to it.This is on a W2K8 machine.Screen shot has been uploaded. Thanks

Hi,
Thank you for sending me the screenshot.
I performed a research on this issue and found this issue could be related to the Nvidia nForce driver.
Please refer to the following article to troubleshoot this issue:
http://seagate.custkb.com/seagate/crm/selfservice/search.jsp?DocId=206391&NewLang=en&Hilite=
To obtain the latest Nvidia nForce driver for your system, please access the following site:
http://www.nvidia.com/Download/index.aspx?lang=en-us
If the issue persists, you may install this Seagate SATA drive on another computer (with a different motherboard) and then partition the drive.
I also recommend contacting Seagate for additional information.
Hope it helps.
