LSI_SCSI Reset to Device on vmware server
Over the past two weeks we have been seeing frequent LSI_SCSI warnings in our System Event Log "Reset to device, \Device\RaidPort0, was issued." Every time this happens the server freezes for 2 to 20 seconds. The lsi_scsi driver is from 6/29/2007 version 1.25.6.22 Any Ideas? The event log entry is: Log Name: SystemSource: LSI_SCSIDate: 5/23/2008 2:33:07 AMEvent ID: 129Task Category: NoneLevel: WarningKeywords: ClassicUser: N/AComputer: vimi.DevelopCPros.comDescription:Reset to device, \Device\RaidPort0, was issued.Event Xml:<Event xmlns="http://schemas.microsoft.com/win/2004/08/events/event"> <System> <Provider Name="LSI_SCSI" /> <EventID Qualifiers="32772">129</EventID> <Level>3</Level> <Task>0</Task> <Keywords>0x80000000000000</Keywords> <TimeCreated SystemTime="2008-05-23T07:33:07.371Z" /> <EventRecordID>27370</EventRecordID> <Channel>System</Channel> <Computer>vimi.DevelopCPros.com</Computer> <Security /> </System> <EventData> <Data>\Device\RaidPort0</Data> <Binary>0F001800010000000000000081000480040000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000810004800000000000000000</Binary> </EventData></Event>

Try to update the driver or the VmWare Tools in your virtual machine.

Hello, Please ensure that you have installed the correct LSI_SCSI device driver for Windows Server 2008. I recommend you try downloading the latest driver for Windows Server 2008 from device manufacturers web site and reinstall the driver on the virtual machine. Meanwhile, if possible please do another test on physical machine as this issue also might be caused by VMware . Please note that Microsoft does not test or support Microsoft software running together with non-Microsoft hardware virtualization software including VMware, unless the issue is confirmed to be unrelated to the non-Microsoft hardware virtualization software by reproducing it independently from the VMware. Thanks. Regards, Neo Zhu

We've been seeing a similar message: The driver detected a controller error on \Device\RaidPort5. The system doesn't freeze but applications accessing some disks see unusually long latencies. There is some evidence that the fibre channel is being reset but only some of our devices will track that information. We're running the most recent LSIlogic driver (1/26.1.0) for our 7404 four port fibre channel card. This happens with WS2008 enterprise 64 bit running on the native hardware (i.e. no virtualization). The error is a bit hard to track since I can find nothing that will map the raidport5 device (whatever that is) to a specific piece of hardware.Any suggestions?

I have had the same issue running 64-bit Windows 2003. I am running VMWare Server 1.0.6. This server has worked fine for almost one year and nowforthe last four weeks the server will get a black sccreen andtry to reboot not finding the raid. I have to do a compleat shutdown to be able to boot. I have had all the hardware replaced and theissue still exists. I have reinstalled the OS several times, rebuilt the raid, updated all drivers. HELP

@JTWUSAI'm not sure how the VMWare handles hardware. You also can try to install a firmware upgrade of your server machine. At the moment we got the same issue on our side. I gonna try the upgrade and keep you informed.
