Keyboard & Mouse Unresponsive When Screen is Locked
This is really a problem with Windows 7, which I posted on that forum, but I was redirected here so I am trying my luck. Original Post: http://social.technet.microsoft.com/Forums/en-US/w7itprosecurity/thread/f4bd9471-0498-4c36-8ec0-a721b2d84edb Description: Recently we have started to use SmartCards in our organization. We are using Windows 7 Enterprise SP1. We have found on some machines where when the computer is locked (for ex. after a pre-defined screen saver lockout), the user cannot use the keyboard or mouse to click anywhere on the screen or type in a password. It is as if there is nothing connected. I have found that if I remotely kill the LogonUI process on that machine from a remote machine, then the logon screen becomes unfrozen and I am able to login again. Otherwise, I need to hard reset the machine. If I disconnect my SmartCard but leave the reader itself plugged in to the PC, this almost never (if ever) happens. Could there be some correlation here or some setting that is causing this problem? On the server side we are running 2008 R2 SP1 in 2008 R2 Native Mode in AD. The person who responded to my other post mentioned this link which explains the SmartCard login process, http://msdn.microsoft.com/en-us/library/ff404289(WS.10).aspx, which I did take a gander at, but I noticed that the LogonUI process only takes action once the person has entered their pin. In our case, we weren't even presented the option to enter the pin. Thanks, Reuvy
