KMS License model
Hi
I need a little help with KMS licensing which I know very little about. I have a Windows 2008 R2 server which is performing the role of KMS server. Do I have to input my Windows 7 key into the KMS server somehow? Do I have to add how many
Windows 7 licenses I have purchased into the KMS server somehow? I currently have a hundred or so Windows 7 PC's showing a message in bottom right corner of screen
'Windows 7'
'Build 7600'
'This copy of Windows is not Genuine'
This is my output seen on the KMS server
c:\Windows\System32>cscript slmgr.vbs /dlv

Hello Bluemoon404,
The Windows 7 machine has the Windows 7 KMS host key installed on it so it appears that you would have 100 Windows 7 KMS hosts rather than KMS clients
If the machines shows this
Description: Windows Operating System - Windows(R) 7, VOLUME_KMS_W7 channel
This is a KMS host key, not a KMS client key.
It should be something like this
Description: Windows Operating System - Windows(R) 7, VOLUME_KMSCLIENT channel
http://technet.microsoft.com/en-us/library/ff793421.aspx
You need to change the product key on those machines to the KMS setup keys( listed on the link below, this is the default key, this will make them KMS clients and they will attempt to contact you KMS host machine.
http://technet.microsoft.com/en-us/library/ff793421.aspx
Your KMS host machine will activate Windows 7 KMS clients, the key installed on your KMS host is hierarchical so it will also activate Windows 7 clients as well as Windows Server
2008 R2 machines. The same key has to activate the underlying OS, so the Windows 7 KMS Host keys can only be installed on Windows 7 machines to make them KMS hosts.
