I know you can audit activations remaining on a MAK key, but I'm not sure about a KMS host key. I haven't read anything to that effect, but that doesn't mean it's not possible. Cheers, Lain

Hi Asitha, This kind of error message is quite straight forward. It's telling you that it is not a valid KMS host activation key. Where abouts did you obtain this from? KMS host activation keys are usually obtained through your sales channel or via the Volume Licensing site through software assurance (https://licensing.microsoft.com). Cheers, Lain Edited: It is also possible that you have taken a KMS host key for Server 2008 from the VL site instead of the Server 2008 R2 key. They are different keys.

Okay, I just looked up that particular error code and it seems you receive the error if you have been accidentally/incorrectly using the KMS key to perform activations on machines as though it were a client key. You might want to have a read of this previous post. Keep in mind the volume licensing site does take a while to show activations. Cheers, Lain
