KB973869 Security Update in endless loop
The KB973869 prompts that it is ready to install, I install it, and after completion it will prompt again to install. It appears to be doing this on all of my 64 bit systems (Server 2003 x64, XP x64). I have searched on the internet and found that I am not alone with this endless loop issue on this update. Unable to see anything in the KB973869.LOG file that would indicate why this happening. Any ideas or URL to a patch for this would be appreciated.

I can also confirm this behaviour.Target system is running x64 version of Windows Server 2003 R2 Enterprise Edition, with SP2 applied. The update is being pushed by WSUS 3.0 SP1 that is part of SBS 2008. A few minutes after the "successful" installation of KB973869, the Windows Update dialog box will pop up in the taskbar again informing the administrator that this same patch is ready for installation.I can also not see anything in the log file which shows an unsuccessful installation, or any explanation as to why this update has been caught in a loop.

I also have this problem. Running XP x64. The Windows Update site shows the update has having been downloaded already (obviously) and shows repeated successful installs of this update.

A user has notified me of the same issue. They're running WinXP x64 with MS Update installed. After successfully installingthrough Windows update it still prompts to install. Checked Add/Remove programs and verified that the patch was installed. I downloaded the KB from http://www.microsoft.com/downloads/details.aspx?displaylang=en&FamilyID=bdfcd0c3-7c18-4e63-91dd-d8f82cd89592, removed theupdateand manually installed and still get the prompt to install. Hopefully MS will get a fix for this issue...

So I had this problem with 64 bit version of Windows Server 2003. The update was being offered via WSUS. I fixed it by going into WSUS, finding the update and looking at the revision history. I found that the older version was approved and the newer one was not approved. So I declined the older version and approved the newer version. After this I stopped autoupdate service, deleted the software distribution folder (in windows directory) and restarted autoupdate service.
