KB2731771 repeatedly fails to install on Windows Server 2008 R2 with error code 8000FFFF
Not finding anything useful on the web to resolve this.
Anyone else experiencing this issue?
I've run disk cleanup, defragged the drive prior to reattempting the install, tried downloading the standalone installer which will not install either.
Any help anyone can offer would be greatly appreciated.

I've attempted your first 2 suggestions with no luck...here is the section of the windowsupdate log from the server. Hoping you or someone can make a better determination from this as to the root cause of this problem...

Some more suggestions...
Option 1:
Make sure the server time is in sync with the domain controller.
run following command to sync time with the DC.
w32tm /config /manualpeerlist:DC_HostName.DomainName.com /syncfromflags:manual /reliable:yes /update
DC_HostName.DomainName.com - replace
it with FQDN of your domain controller hostname. E.g. If your DC hostname is DC01 and Domain name is abc.com then command would look like below
w32tm /config /manualpeerlist:DC01.abc.com /syncfromflags:manual
/reliable:yes /update
Option 2:
Make sure Windows Firewall and UAC is turned off on the server.
Add following URLs in IE trusted sites explicitly and then try updating...
http://download.windowsupdate.com
https://*.windowsupdate.microsoft.com
http://*.windowsupdate.microsoft.com
http://*.update.microsoft.com

Option 3:
Copy the text from below in a text file and save that file as fix.bat. Run fix.bat from elevated cmd (Run as Admin). Once batch is executed, try executing standalone update
exe.

sc config wuauserv start= auto
