KB2724197 causing ntvdm.exe to crash. Cannot run 16bit applications
After installing KB2724197 on my Windows XP and Windows Server 2003 R2 systems I cannot run a 16bit application that is vital to production at my site. Once I remove KB2724197 and reboot, everything runs smoothly. All operating systems are fully patched, excluding KB2724197. Is anyone else experiencing this? Any solutions? Thanks, Adam

Ironically, I encountered this problem today as well. Had a 16 bit DOS application that failed in fullscreen in XP Mode. It appears KB2724197 is related to KB2707511 which had a known bug described on this support page (2732488). One website I found claimed that the latter supercedes the former. EDIT: The hotfix given in the Article 2732488 does not appear to resolve the problem. Until an updated hotfix comes out, it appears the only way to avoid this problem may be to keep *4197 uninstalled for now. Nicholas

Hi, Me too facing the same issue and we found that " Upper memory " is missing after this update. we can check the memory using the command "mem /c ". Before update I was able to view Both "Conventional & Upper Memory ", after this update I was able to view only Conventional Memory. Due to this we are unable to run this DOS applications. Any body got any solutions, please share !!!
