KB2667402 fails with a 8024200D error in Win 2008R2 x64
I am trying to install KB2667402 via Windows Update and it always fails with a 8024200D error. I've tried several things, all unsuccesful:
Downloading the MSU file and executing (failed)Disabling RDP temporarily (didn't change a thing)Update readiness tool (it finished saying no errors)rebooting in safe mode (an error said that "This service cannot be started in safe mode")there is no antivirus installed so that can't be the problem
Sadly, I NEED this urgently because RDP just fails without it. Almost every time a user tries to connect, we get this error logged in Event Viewer:
"The Remote Desktop Services service terminated unexpectedly. It has done this 1 time(s). The following corrective action will be taken in 60000 milliseconds: Restart the service." (EventID 7031).
Windows SP1 is already installed. This is the only "important update" pending, being Silverlight the only "optional" update pending. No update is in the "hidden" list of Windows update. The user does not use WSUS.
I really don't know what else to try. Any help will be greatly appreciated.

I'd also try a clean boot.
Clean boot
=================
1) Click the Start Button type "msconfig" (without quotation marks) in the Run box, and then press Enter.
Note: If prompted, please click Continue on the User Account Control (UAC) window.
2) Click the "Services" tab, check the "Hide All Microsoft Services" box and click "Disable All" (if it is not gray).
3) Click the "Startup" tab, click "Disable All" and click "OK".
Then, shutdown/restart the computer and try again.

Same problem here, tried the clean boot as suggested but it didn't work.
Working on a ASUS Notebook N53SV with Windows 7 Home Premium - 64 Bit - SP1
As an OEM version it should be supported by the manufacturer, but the phone operator at the support center told me either to restore the Operating System or to contact the Microsoft Support!

Ensure you download the correct security update here:
http://www.microsoft.com/en-us/download/details.aspx?id=29169
Reset the Windows Update components:
http://support.microsoft.com/kb/971058
Clean boot the machine, turn off the other applications and services, then reinstall the KB2667402 to check if it works.

Had same problem. The update already exists in the list of installed updates. Removed the update and installed it again
