Joining Server 2000 to Server 2008 R2
I am trying to join an older Win 2000 Server to our new Win 2008 R2 Server. I have created a new domain with the new server. I have also demoted the older server with dcpromo to a Standalone server. After setting the DNS IP address for the new server, I was able to join the new domain (company.local) using my old Workgroup login. To this point everything was nominal. After I logged on the new domain with the myname@company.local login, the old server screen went completely blank. No icons, no taskbar. I can hit Ctrl-Alt-Del and bring up the Task Manager, so I know the computer is not locked-up. What do I need to do to get the desktop back?? One thing I just thought of: I have not created a new local user myname@company.local on the W2000 server. Could that be part of it?? The Functional level is Win 2008 R2.

Try this and let us know go to task manager from the below click newtask and type explorer.exe. If explorer.exe is not corrupt you should be able to see the desktop. Thankshttp://www.virmansec.com/blogs/skhairuddin

Hi, Check if your Windows 2000 has SP4 installed. Meanwhile, please understand that support for Windows 2000 ends on July 13, 2010. For more information, refer to: Windows 2000 End-of-Support Solution Center http://support.microsoft.com/ph/1131 Regards, Bruce
