Issues with Domain users and logging in after DC moved
Hiya, On the client machine, after they are logged in, if you ping the domain name, what do you get? Example: ping mydomain.local

Hi there, We recently moved our DC to a new server and everything transferred properly, however ever since the old DC was shut down, everybody logging into the Domain is taking forever to login, its stuck with a grey screen for a long time after logging in and then starts with "Applying personal settings" and then eventually logs in. Any ideas? They are logging into a Domain hosted on a SBS 2003 server that is running the AD/Exchange/DC All service packs and updates are properly installed on it.

Hello, to understnad you correct the running DC is SBS version from Windows? All domain machines use the correct domain DNS server, the SBS ONLY, on the NIC? Please provide an unedited ipconfig /all from the DC/DNS server and aclient with problems. How exactly have you moved the DC to new server? Was it a new installation with using the same names or did you add a new server to the existing doamin?Best regards Meinolf Weber MVP, MCP, MCTS Microsoft MVP - Directory Services My Blog: http://msmvps.com/blogs/mweber/ Disclaimer: This posting is provided AS IS with no warranties or guarantees and confers no rights.

Hi, > We recently moved our DC to a new server and everything transferred properly, What do you mean move DC to new server? You promoted a mew DC and demoted the old one? Is the new DC host DNS service? Check your clients network setting; make sure they are connecting to the correct DNS server. How you clients get IP address? DHCP or manually configure IP address. Have you modified DHCP to assign new DNS server? Please check that and give us feedback for further troubleshooting. Hi there, Yes this is a SBS 2003 Service Pack 2 server and we installed the server onto the existing domain, then we transferred the roles, however we we have done a dc promo on the new server but we have not demoted the old DC, just shut it down, it doesn't seem to hinder any functionality though everything is working but the login times are long, I will gather the information you requested and post it here, please let me know if you need more info. The client machines are pointing to the correct DNS and we have a DHCP Scope setup on the server to assign DCHP addresses to the machines, not sure how you go about assigning a DNS server through the scope to all machines? I just noticed something, the Terminal server that the clients also connect to, the NIC was pointing to the old Domain DNS so I changed it, however it had the correct DNS in the WINS? The new DC is not the same hostname as the old one, its a complete new DC.

Hi, > The client machines are pointing to the correct DNS Which server is the correct DNS? Is the new DC also running DNS service? Check DNS configuration on your DNS server; make sure new DC is registered in DNS. On you client, run below command and post the result: Nslookup domainname.com Ping domainname.com For more information please refer to following MS articles: Troubleshooting Active DirectoryRelated DNS Problems http://technet.microsoft.com/en-us/library/bb727055.aspx Troubleshoot DNS Problems Related to Active Directory http://technet.microsoft.com/en-us/library/cc526683.aspxLawrence TechNet Community Support
