Is any license required to use Windows server 2003 resource toolkit components on Windows server 2008/2012 R2

Hi,

One of our service requires instsrv.exe and srvany.exe which were part of windows server 2003 resource toolkit and by default installed on windows server 2003. We found that these executables are not present in windows server 2012/2008 R2, and we want to install them on Windows server 2008/2012 R2. How can we do this?

We want to distribute these executables to our client with our product as redistributable

Can we download them from windows server 2003 resource toolkit and distribute them to our client? Is any license is required for that or is it

Hi Pratik Tayde,

Unlike previous operating systems, in Windows Server 2008 and Windows Server 2008 R2, the resource kit tools are installed as part of the server role installation.  In the past, you had to download the resource kit tools separately.

Hi Alex,

Thanks for thanks reply.

It says the resource toolkit are installed as a part of server role installation does that means all the services?

  1. I precisely want to know about instsrv.exe and srvany.exe, as we didn't found that on Windows server 2008/2012 R2, are these there on Win 2008/2012.
  2. As we were unable to found that on Win 2008/12, we decided to provide them as a redistributable and for that we need to download and  distribute them, so is any license is required for that to distribute it legally?

Thanks & regards,

Pratik
