IrDA on Windows Server 2008 r2?
Hi folks,
I'm trying to get my Polar IrDA adapter working under Windows Server 2008r2. I Use the OS for my workstation and I'd like to get my running stats on this machine as well.
As far as I can tell IrDA isn't a part of the w2008r2 setup and I've only found people setting up Microsoft eHome remote on w2008r2. I have 64-bit drivers made for Windows 7 and they install fine but the device has a yellow exclaimation mark next to it in
device manager.
I wouldn't mind using this within a VM, but as far as I know you can't get USB working within the Hyper-V VM's, right?
Has anyone managed to get an IrDA adapter working, other than eHome?
Thanks!

Hi,
Base on my experience, most of the drivers for Windows 7 are compatible with Windows Serve 2008 R2, however, this is no guarantee.
According to the description, it seems that the drivers for Windows 7 is not compatible with Windows Server 2008 R2, so you may contact the vendor to
check whether they have the compatible drivers.
By the way, currently, it is not support to add a USB device to the Hyper-V VMs directly. However, there are some workaround, you can refer to the following
post to see whether you can get it work.
Hyper-V and usb dongles possible?

I think the driver loads, but it possibly fails to add registry entries or whatever else is required. Is there a way to introduce these manually?
This is the error I'm getting:
"Windows cannot start this hardware device because its configuration information (in the registry) is incomplete or damaged. (Code 19)"

I managed to solve this by using Fabulatech USB over Network software. I can now share the USB IrDA adapter on the host 2008r2 where it doesn't work, and use it in a virtual XP machine under Hyper-V. Didn't notice any difference in response or speed when
compared to a Win7 laptop using the same software/IrDA adapter.
Pity there's no USB support under Hyper-V.
