Introducing 2008 DC in 2003 forest functional and domain level
Hello I have two domains liquidationworld.local and lwstrore.local, each domain have two child domains stores.liquidationworld.local and DC.liquidationworld.local , stores.lwstores.local and DC.lwstores.local , all part of same forest. I would like to introduce two 2008 R2 DC in each domain as third child domains , it will be online.liquidationworld.local and online.lwstores.local , my question is following 1) Do i need to Run adprep/forest prep on first root server which is liquidationworld.local which currently holds the schema master role and then run domain prep on each DC lwstrore.local,stores.liquidationworld.local , DC.liquidationworld.local , stores.lwstores.local and DC.lwstores.local 2) After runnning those then i will introduce 2008 as a child domain on both domains?

You run ADPREP /forestprep on the schema master DC on each root domain. The run ADPREP /domain prep on the infrastructure master DC in each domain that you plan on introducing Windows 2008 R2 DCs. Keep in mind that 2008 and 2008 R2 each have their own version of ADPREP. Since 2008 R2 is 64 bit, the version of ADPREP that comes with 2008 R2 would be run on a DC that is 64 bit. If you do not have a 64 bit DC currently, then you would run ADPREP32.exe. Hi, > 1) Do i need to Run adprep/forest prep on first root server which is liquidationworld.local which currently > holds the schema master role and then run domain prep on each DC > lwstrore.local,stores.liquidationworld.local , DC.liquidationworld.local , stores.lwstores.local and > DC.lwstores.local Yes. Prepare Forest for new DC that runs Windows Server 2008 or 2008 R2: You must run Adprep.exe to update AD schema before you can add a domain controller (DC) that is running Windows Server 2008 or 2008 R2. To update schema, you must run Adprep.exe on your existing DC that hosts the schema operations master role. Prepare Domain for new DC that runs Windows Server 2008 or 2008 R2: You must run Adprep.exe form the installation DVD on your existing DC that hosts the infrastructure master role. (Not on each DC) > 2) After runnning those then i will introduce 2008 as a child domain on both domains? After above Forest prepare and Domain prepare, you can introduce new Windows Server 2008 or 2008 R2 DC into your current network environment.
