Interface Utilization counter error

Hello, I wonder if someone can help me with this issue. This occurs when the Interface Utilization threshold is reached only on a switch, but not on the others.

We have the following:

  • a simple cascade/trunk like this: Switch (A port X) connected to Switch B (port Y).
  • both are recognized by SCOM as Network Devices
  • both are monitored with default values (no overridden rules)
  • the speed is gigabyte over ethernet.

We detected an error when trying to troubleshoot alerts that have been arising during a large data transfer. The transfer was in both directions, from Switch A to Switch B and vice versa.

Checking counters and charts at a specific time, we have:

  • On switch A: Outbound Bits per Second = 40%, Inbound Bits per Second = 40%, Interface Utilization = 80% => Utilization alert is triggered (the behavior is OK)
  • On switch B: Outbound Bits per Second = 40%, Inbound Bits per Second = 40%, Interface Utilization = 40% => Utilization alert no triggered (Error)

Checking the Outbound chart and Interface Utilization chart on switch B, we can say that are equivalent. We don't know why the Inbound counter is ignored.

Have you ever had this kind of error? I appreciate any help.

Best regards,

Xavier
