Interactive Logon Timeout Threshold
In our computer lab we have a group of young kids that are learning to log into the systems with their student accounts. It sometimes takes them a while to log in and enter their password. Often times the timeout threshold is not long enough and then they need to re-enter their username and password. How can we increase this timeout value? I would prefer a GPO setting. Thank you.

Have tried it? You can try using GPP to apply registry changes. This posting is provided "AS IS" with no warranties or guarantees , and confers no rights. I quickly made the change on the terminal server to see if that would help. So I just used the registry editor. Basically I can re-create the event like this: 1) Student initiates connection to the terminal server 2) Type one letter of the password 3) Stay idle for 30 seconds 4) Logon screen disappears Same thing for the PC's: 1) Student starts to type in password 2) Stay idle for 30 seconds 3) Screen goes back to message text 30 seconds is plenty enough time for most people but not for young kids. Thanks.

Hi, According to the description, you would like to extend the time out for logon window to input user name and password in two scenarios, terminal server and desktop logon. For desktops, as far as I know, the logon window timeout is hard coded and we cannot change it. If your terminal server is Windows Server 2008 R2, you may configure the following registry value to configure the timeout: HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SYSTEM\CurrentControlSet\Control\Terminal Server\WinStations\RDP-Tcp Name: LogonTimeout (DWORD) Value: Specifies the time in seconds – Decimal Value – 300. Hex - (12c) its 5 minutes. Please reboot the server after adding the above key. Please remember to click “Mark as Answer” on the post that helps you, and to click “Unmark as Answer” if a marked post does not actually answer your question. This can be beneficial to other community members reading the thread.
