Due to some new software (Multiverse) our business server with MS server 2003 is going to be migrated to MS Server 2008. This migration went well but now comes the problem: I bought MS SQL Sever 2008 R2 also required for the new software and tried to install this. At first you can test if you have the minimum requirements; that went well, all was green. When I tried to install SQL Server 2008 R2 the first thing I got to see that my OS was the wrong one and the Installation couldn't go on. I'm logged in as administrator and the fire wall is down. Got no anti virus software running....what is going on? Can you please help me?

From your question ,you are trying to install SQL server 2008 R2 on Windows server 2008 .Did you read below article for hardware and software reg for SQL server 2008 R2

Did you meet all requirements please check.Also what is edition of SQL server you are trying to install

After your installation failed you must have got some errorlog file below link will help you locate that file please post output here of that file

I agree with Shanky. Setup logs can help in identifying exact cause.

All you need in order to install SQL 2008r2 on Winows 2008 is to install the latest SP (I think SP2 is Good enough... check the link).
