Install Print Management console by gpo

Hi,

I have an active directory with two dns (windows server 2012 datacenter) and I would like to know how I can deploy the print management console in AD (per computer)?

What I really want is to manage and drivers and printer in the computers of the domain. Now I'm able to deploy printers.

Thanks in advance.

You can see that: http://community.spiceworks.com/topic/271117-i-need-a-command-line-to-enable-a-windows-feature-for-rsat-tools-in-windows

You need to have RSAT installed on your clients.

Mainly, you can prepare a script to enable the feature and deploy it by GPO.

Thanks for your reply.

I need to change this setting for all computers in the domain and from my point of view it's dangerous to change registry.

One question. Is it possible to achieve this whit wmic or get-wmiobject?

Hi,

Firstly I agree with MR. X that its not possible to deploy print management console by GPO, due to there are only specific application types can be deployed by GPO.

By the way, do you have print server in your environment, if so you can install the print management console on your printer server, in that case, you are able to install, view, and manage all of the printers in your organization. You can hit the link below to set up the print management console on the printer server:

https://technet.microsoft.com/en-us/library/cc755424(v=ws.10).aspx

If you do want to manage printers and drivers on the computers in your domain, you might need to install RSAT on your computers in the domain.

You can deploy the RSAT via group policy. To deploy RSAT, we can use wusa.exe and dism.exe via scripts group policy. on Windows Vista and later, to automate working with MSU Windows Update files, we use the wusa.exe utility. Once the RSAT is installed, it must be enabled manually by the end user, in the Programs and Features Control Panel applet. To automate working with Windows Features, we use the dism.exe.

Below link show you a way to deploy the RSAT to your computers. You can have a look:

Hope it helps. If you have any concerns, feel free to post back.

Elaine

Thanks Elain for your help.

It's true I can manage printers on network computer but only in case printer  would be local to the computer.

In my case, most of the times, the computers in the domain have installed remote printers, for example:

\\printerserver.mydomain.com\printer1

I have tried the remove-printer and add-printer for managing this kind of printers but it doesn't work. It only works for local printers.

Hi

May I know if you put all these printers sharing in active directory when you configuare the printers in the print management console on the printer server?

Besides, did you assign the EVERYONE with the print permission in the printer properties' securtiy tab?

Looking forwared to your feedback. If anything unclear, feel free to post back.

Best Regards,

Elaine
