Install .net framework 4.0
I have a server with windows 2008 R2 Standard sp1 installed. Now we have a program requires .net framework 4.0. But it is not installed on the server. I am not the one who sets up the operating system on the server. So would like to know Should it be part of windows default installation? if not, how should I install it? I read online it says .net framework is availble from windows update, but I just did a check online for updates from windows update, I cannot see there is a update for .net framework 4.0. SQLFriend

.NET 4.0 does not ship with Server 2008 R2. You must download and install seperatly. http://www.microsoft.com/en-us/download/details.aspx?id=17851

Thanks, I end up to download from ms website and install it. It is strange, in one of our servers, it is listed as windows update, but on the other server that has same version of windows, we cannot see it is available as a windows update. We run check online for windows udpate.SQLFriend

Do you have the other server set to check for optional updates? If so, that is why .NET 4.0 appears. If you have a server/client set to check for important updates only, then you would not see .NET 4.0.

Check to see if your server (the one that is not showing .NET 4.0) is set to download Recommended updates (the first option in the image) along with the option to show and download optional MSFT software (the third option in the image) and Software notifications (the fourth option). Depending on your environment, you may or may-not be able to select these options.

Thanks, this is the screenshot of what it is now, and I know from our network admin,he says windows 2008 later first check from our own wsus server, but if we click check online for updates from microsoft update link, it will check all. But even after I run it, it did't show the .net framework, so I have to manually download it. SQLFriend
