Information about Shared SQL Sever

Could anyone explain me what is meant by Shared SQL Server in detail?

Hello,

In which context have you heard the term "Shared SQL Server"?

I guess it's meant a SQL Server (in the cloud) shared by several different users/companies.

Which means it is an single Server shared between multiple Application/Business Teams..

This Shared Server may have multiple SQL Server instance which has number of user databases

Each databases used by separate Business Teams.

This type Shared SQL Server concept will be in Banking & Telecommunication Domains.

If  i want to monitor one of sql server instance which is shared.

so want to ask do i need install monitoring agent on sql server instance or on shared sql server?

I believe you are referring to "Shared SQL Area".

It's a term related to Oracle database for scalable DBs (similar to federated databases in DB2).

Just and Monitoring Agent.. Which will monitor and sent alert for all the Instances/DB's on that Shared Box.

You dont need to buy momitoring tool to monitor just single instance. You can place various alerts to monitor SQL Server.
