Info Sharing: System Center Essentials cannot discover new machines after EBS Management Server IP address is changed via Change IP Address Settings tool
RAPID PUBLISHING RAPID PUBLISHING ARTICLES PROVIDE INFORMATION DIRECTLY FROM WITHIN THE MICROSOFT SUPPORT ORGANIZATION. THE INFORMATION CONTAINED HEREIN IS CREATED IN RESPONSE TO EMERGING OR UNIQUE TOPICS, OR IS INTENDED SUPPLEMENT OTHER KNOWLEDGE BASE INFORMATION. Symptom System Center Essentials cannot discover new machines after the EBS Management Servers IP address is changed via the Change IP Address Settings tool. Cause The ChangeIP tool doesn't update SCE's group policy objects to reflect the new IP address of the Management server. Resolution Rerunning the SCE feature configuration wizard will put the correct IP in all the appropriate locations in Group Policy. To launch the SCE feature configuration wizard, follow these steps: 1. On the Management server, open the System Center Essentials 2007 console. 2. On the toolbar menu, click Go then click Administration . 3. Under the Actions section, click Configure Product Features . This will launch the configuration wizard. Be sure to choose the option for Yes, Create Windows Firewall Exceptions . As an alternative, you can modify the group policies manually. System center essentials creates two group policies (SCE Managed Computers Group Policy and System Center Essentials All Computers Policy). In the SCE Managed Computers Group Policy, a firewall exception is added to allow remote desktop from the IP address of the Management server. In the System Center Essentials All Computers Policy, firewall exceptions are added to allow file and print sharing and remote assistance from the Management server. You must edit each of these policies and change the IP address on the firewall exceptions to the new IP address of the Management server.
