Individual counters and SCOM Management Pack

Hello all,

If SCOM with management pack are being used, do we still need to look into the individual counters or should we primarily rely on the SCOM rules and monitors for alerts and state?

Thanks.

It depends on your company requirement. Most situation, the default rule and monitor, come from management pack, are enough except performance threshold value, it is highly recommend that fine tuning is require.

the management packs provided and which you can find from Microsoft and the community and third party vendors are usually set to best practices monitoring events and thresholds and such. SOme of those might require some tuning to your specific environment. And sometimes more monitoring is needed if those are your company requirements.

Hi All,

Most of the Management Packs are developed by the Manufactures themself. So by default they will included almost all of the counter which are related to that technology.

Most of the performance or counter collection Rule is the Management Pack are disabled by default, with an option to enable them.

You needs to export the management pack monitoring configuration using MP viewer tool and check the rule performance counter to know what exactly it collects.

Please mark this as answer if you feel so

Thanks and Regards
