IP address in DNS
I have been given 2 IP addresses which ping via IP and hostname fine. I need to setup some remote management cards for HP Servers and i need to use the next IP address in the range so it 65.?? and so on. When i look in the DNS management console under all the zones i cannot find the 2 IP addresses i have been given. When you assign the static address isn't it supposed to register itself in the primary DNS ?I can get a https session 2 both of the IP's but i don't understand why i cannot find them in any of the zones. I see other ranges 45 etc. This is Class B addresses by the way 172.??.??.?? This is Windows 2003 domainThanks.Luigi

Hi Luigi,"When you assign the static address isn't it supposed to register itself in the primary DNS ?"You need to make sure that you have to point management cards for the dns server NIC 1 ==> point to DNS server ( primary ) NIC 2 ==> point to DNS server ( primary ) and when you perform ipconfig /registerdns the IPaddress would contact the DNS server you have configured and then adds a corresponding A record into the zone .If you do not specify the DNS address for your NIC cards there is no way that your NIC would register either in DNS or WINS.And registering into DNS has no restrictions over the subnet ranges , if your IPaddress is in different subnet compared to DNS server, you need to open up the traffic for clients to register their ipaddresses on to dns server.

Hello,
Thank you for your post here.
Yes, please make sure that you have the DNS server address (itself) on both NICs. For further investigation, please paste the IPconfig /all here. You can also try to manually check how it works if you register the DNS name by "ipconfig /registerdns".
If you have any questions or concerns, please do not hesitate to let us know.
