IP Scope question

Hello,

We have DHCP on our server with an address pool from 10.1.10.1 - 10.1.10.254 / subnet 255.255.255.0 and we have run out of IP addresses and I need to install another range of IP's. I was told to set up another scope and create a Superscope. I tried this but the problem I am having is coming up with another range of IP's anything I enter (example 10.1.11.1 - 10.1.11.254) it shows up in the DHCP but does not assign any addresses out. I have never done this before am I missing something? I tried entering one of the addresses static on one of the computers to try and it tells me that the IP is not on the same network as the gateway...

Any Help would be appreciated

Hi

You need to configure Vlans for ip blockes, then configure DHCP relay for this Vlans on your router.

Check for this article for an example scenario,

Hi Bslevin,

Agree with Burak.

Besides, to enable the connection between the two subnets, we need to add routes.

If you are using cisco devices, we could contact cisco support for help:

There isn't any easier way without creating vlans? I only need to add more ip's mainly for wifi, because we have about 80 employees but everyone now has 2-3 portable devices and we have a lot of visitors with their devices also, so it is not a lot of hard wired devices but mostly mobile.

I was told that you can just add more ip's by creating a second scope and the creating a superscope. I tried but it doesn't seem to work.

Hi

The best pratice is configure Vlans,But also you could configure scope level filtering for wifi devices(by mac filtering) on this scope.

Check for details

But for visitors, you could add allow filter for each visitor's device all the times.

Or you could configure scope level filtering on your current scope, all other devices assign ip address from other new

Hi Bslevin,

I suppose we could back off the subnet mask.

If you change the subnet mask to 255.255.254.0, then you could get a range of 10.1.0.1 - 10.1.1.254. There are more than 500 IP addresses available for clients.

Best Regards,

Leo
