IM and E-MAIL notifications do nothing

Hi,

I'm new to SCOM 2012 R2 and I have configured IM and E-Mail notification channels, created a subscriber and subscription for "Network Device is not responding..." alerts. I configured a Notification Run As account. I'm not getting any SCOM alerts, or misconfiguration warnings/errors, so I thinks that it's been set up correctly.

Still, when network devices become unresponsive, my subscriber doesn't get any IMs or Emails.

What else could I be overlooking ?

Make sure that
1) subscription criteria is set correctly. What is your subscription criteria?
2) the email notification channel is set correctly
3) make sure that your smtp server allow relay email by your Managment servers
4) Your SMTP server is correct and no firewall block port 25 between management servers and SMTP server
5) your authentication method is correct. for Windows Integrated authentication method, you should make sure that action acount in Run as Profile "Notification Account"  has right to send email
6) You may refer to J.C. Hornbeck  blog on Alert notification troubleshooting in System Center Operations Manager, http://blogs.technet.com/b/operationsmgr/archive/2010/08/11/alert-notification-troubleshooting-in-system-center-operations-manager-2007.aspx.

Thanks Roger, I followed that blog to start with. I think the relay was missing. We added it and now I'm waiting for the alert to happen. Is there a straightforward easy way to test both E-Mail and IM notifications ?

Thanks Roger,

I tried the tool, but it does not seem to work with SCOM 2012 R2.

Hi Stephane,

Please check if you are getting notifications for your other subscriptions? It will help you to verify whether your channel is working fine or not.

You can check, if you selected the right rule/monitor in the subscription.

It should resolve the issue.
