IIS Security Require secure channel (SSL) option
Hi, I have a website running on a windows server 2003 with IIS. There is currently a certificate installed. Users can only use https and port 443 to access such website and will be able to see a lock on the browser with SSL certificate information. However I notice that the Require secure channel option box is not checked. I am not sure if it is the firewall blocking the port 80 and only allow 443 that's doing the trick, or the SSL is actually securing the site. What is such option do? How do I check if the data coming in and out of the website are encrypted? Please advise.

That web site should be accessible with either HTTP or HTTPS. If you cannot access it via HTTP over port 80 then something between the client and the server is blocking port 80. If you specify https and the connection is made to the web server then your traffic is encrypted. If you want to confirm, you can sniff the network traffic.Paul Adare CTO IdentIT Inc. ILM MVP
