IIS 7 SSL cert generation (dumb question)
What is the difference between create certificate request (normal ssl which I have done many times before) and create domain certificate? also, is there any way to create an SSL with a different name and not get the certificate error?example:server name: myserver.domain.comI create a web site and use a host name of thisis.mylife.comI have a registered domain of mylife.com I purchase an SSL with the common name of thisis.milife.comand when I visit the site I see a cert error because of the name mismatch. is there any way around this?THank you in advance

Hi, Thanks for your post. Generally speaking, the create domain certificate option is used when there is an Enterprise CA in the environment. As for the name mismatch error, please confirm if you access the website with the FQDN of the host name this.milife.com. Based on my research, we should be able to access the website (without any error) if the subject name of the certificate matches the FQDN that we type in the web browser. If you access the website using the host name this.milife.com but the issue persists, please follow the steps to capture the network traffic for further research: 1. Please install Netmon 3.3 on the client machine and the Web server:Microsoft Network Monitor 3.3http://www.microsoft.com/downloads/details.aspx?displaylang=en&FamilyID=983b941d-06cb-4658-b7f6-3088333d062f 2. Right-click the Netmon icon and select Run as Administrator to launch NetMon3.3 on both machines. In the Microsoft Network Monitor 3.3 window, click Create a new capture tab. In the new tab, select all the Network Adapters in the Select Networks window. 5. Press F10 to start NetMon. 6. Access the website to reproduce the issue. 7. After the error occurs, go back to the NetMon window and press F11 to stop the NetMon on both machines. 8. Press Ctrl+S to save the Netmon file.Note: Please let me know the IP address of the machines. Please upload the certificate and the Netmon files to the following space: https://sftasia.one.microsoft.com/choosetransfer.aspx?key=14ed105a-cade-4dea-9605-e8e91cc005ec Password: g1]B*jHNLSgho] I look forward to your response.
