IIS 6.0 Performance Issues?
We are running a single web server application on Windows Server 2003 (32-bit), IIS 6.0 with ColdFusion 8.0 and a SQL 2005 backend (separate db server). Below is a screenshot of IIS stats we are pulling from our Solarwinds Management Server on our
management network. What we are beginning to see is ColdFusion "locking" the site due to some type of query/thread timeouts - no bad entries in IIS/event logs, just the site incapable of handling requests (503 errors sometimes, mostly just unresponsive
site).
We know query times are long in the code and are trying to work with the developers (at by that i mean "get them to work" - not going well). As systems guys, however, we would like to try to offset their scalability problems and also be sure that there
isn't some underlying IIS issues that we should be tackling.
NOTE that the numbers below are a snapshot-in-time but are about a half a weeks worth - the app server is restarted every Friday.
Should these numbers be so high? Could this be typical to our application or do these signify some IIS problems we can fix. We have seen App Pool errors where connections are "abandoned" but they have been going on in our app for years - they
just now seem to reach a threshold where the app pool is overloaded and shuts down causing sporadic issues with the site.
Any help is greatly appreciated.
