Does anyone know where I can get the lastest verison of the Icacls.exe program .. The one that is on the server here , is an older verison even though the server is up to date .. I have version 5.2.3790.3959 and saw something about a .4218 version .. any help would be nice .. thanks !!!!

the lates ICACLS.EXE is present in windows 2008 r2 server you can copy it from there and also windows 2008 service pack should also contain the newest version http://www.virmansec.com/blogs/skhairuddin

bummer , we don't have any servers here running 2008 yet .. that is next year there planing on upgrading .. been tiring to script something and without the new version some of the flags don't work right or not at all .

I have Windows 2003 R2 SP2 fully patched and the file version is exactly the same with yours. What is the problem with this version? Do not specify versions undefinitely - "saw something about" does not help to solve problem.

one of the troubels i am having is that it will not remove the inherit flag , and saw a post about how a hotfix but a new icacls verison 5.2.3790.4707 but when i search the server i dont find that file anywhere .. and the 2008 icacls files dont run on my xp box .. keep getting the error of not a win32 file or something like that .. so was looking for the latest version of the 2003 on .. but cant find any dll, exe files anywhere ..

thanks a lot Milos and Don , i looked all weekend for hot patch fixes with newer verison and the ones i did find were old post with older verison .. thanks for the help .. will try it later today and hope it works ..
