Hyper-v inquiry

My Manager asked me to install windows server on two machines that runes Hyper-v and he wants these two Hyper-V connected to each other backing up each other and if the primary goes down the second one will starts automatically, I ask him if he wants a failover system he refused the idea because the failover cluster uses one shared storage which he doesn't like. is there and way to connect two hyper-v together like he wants? and if there are such a thing, what are the steps for that?

thanks

Hi Sir,

>>and he wants these two Hyper-V connected to each other backing up each other and if the primary goes down the second one will starts automatically

Hyper-v doesn't have this feature .

As far as I know , cluster is the only solution for this requirement (ISCSI still can work as a shared storage , you can enable additional server to be ISCSI target server  ).

As a workaround , you may try to use "hyper-v replica" for these VMs (but it is not a real-time copy for VMs ).

As Elton suggests - Hyper-V replica will probably be most appropriate solution based on your description.

If you are looking for addition configuration options including creation of failover plans and group you might consider Azure Site Recovery. Here is a link to the Deployment scenarios of  Azure Site Recovery Overview

yes he does want them both connected to each other and backing up each other, and yes I have been looking around until I get convinced that there are no feature in Hyper-v would do that, (ISCSI means a shared storage) as I have mentioned he is not OK with the idea of shared storage; however, I have convinced him to use Hyper-v replica but now he wants a Hyper-v replica with broker, the concept is very close to Hyper-v failover cluster, now I need to know the pre-steps to set the Hyper-V replica with broker.

Thank you for your answer

And that's what I am about to do, except I am obligated to do it with Hyper-V replica with broker. Currently I am trying to find the difference between the two processes of normal Hyper-V replica and Hyper-V replica with Broker, if you have any information to share I would really appreciate that

Thanks,

Hi Sir,

Sorry for the delay .

>>And that's what I am about to do, except I am obligated to do it with Hyper-V replica with broker.

Hyper-v replica broker is a role when you want to enable hyper-v replica between hyper-v clusters .

It is similar to enable hyper-v replica between hyper-v standalone hosts .

Please refer to following article to enable hyper-v replica:
