Hyper-V Storage Replica - Guest Active on Replica Node

I'm playing with Hyper-V storage replica. I did this setup: https://technet.microsoft.com/en-us/library/mt126102.aspx

The only difference is that I only have one server per site. Everything works as expected. I have one source disk and one destination disk. What I don't understand is this:

I can have a guest run on the server that is responsible for the replica disk..So somehow its accessing the Source disk on the other server? Is it using redirected IO? Can someone explain this to me?

Howdy,

Ideally, youd have another set of disks, so that one server can be active for some storage + VMs and the other server active for the other storage + VMs. You can configure site awareness in TP3 to give the VMs guidance on which site to prefer as well, down to the group level (see: http://blogs.msdn.com/b/clustering/archive/2015/08/19/10636304.aspx).

Otherwise, you are correct: VMs running on the destination storage node will have to redirect all their IO to the source node storage. Not optimal for performance, but it will work.
