Hyper-V Role causes black screen on boot-up
I installed Windows Server 2008 R2 and added the role for Hyper-V. After the reboot following the first install of Hyper-V the screen froze black on boot-up. I disabled the SVM in the BIOS setup and was able to load up windows again without Hyper-V running. NOTE: I used the AMD Virtualization Compatibility Utility and was told that the system is compatible with Hyper-V. If the processor is compatable with Hyper-V, what do I need to do to use it? If I re-enable the SVM then I get the same black screen freeze on boot-up. My motherboard is a ASRock E350M1/USB3 have updated the BIOS version 1.4; latest version.

Might be the hardware issue contact the hardware vendor and also see the below link http://social.technet.microsoft.com/Forums/en-US/winserverhyperv/thread/61fd5b0d-9d15-4f74-a970-7aafe491ef67 http://www.virmansec.com/blogs/skhairuddin

Hi, Please also check the following post, though the issue was resolved in Windows Server 2008 R2. You may try to get the latest version of BIOS to see whether you get the same issue. Windows 2008 EE with Hyper-V hangs on restart... http://social.technet.microsoft.com/forums/en-US/winserverhyperv/thread/d0aa56cb-6697-4241-a129-97caa4118ce8 Best Regards, Vincent Hu

Vincent, Thanks for the response, however, as mentioned I already have the latest version of my BIOS utility. As well, I used the AMD Virtualization tool and was told that my CPU can handle Hyper-V tech. Is there something else that I should try or be aware of? I have enabled the SVM in the BIOS. PhilPhil
