How to upgrade Windows 2003 R2 oem license to volume license
I have a windows 2003 R2 oem version intalled on server. After purchase windows 2003 R2 volume license, i need to update my license to volume. Obviously if windows 2003 R2 was installed with oem media, it will not accept volume license until you reinstall windows. As there are a lot of applications have been installed on this server, i wounder is there any ways work around replace oem windows with volume edtion without reinstall whole windows? Thanks for any suggestions. Karl

I suggest contacting Microsoft Licensing Center for detailed explanation. http://www.microsoft.com/licensing/contact-us.aspx Also you can call 1-800-426-9400 (select option 4), Monday through Friday, 6:00 A.M. to 5:30 P.M. (PST) to speak directly to a Microsoft licensing specialist. Worldwide customers can use the Guide to Worldwide Microsoft Licensing Sites http://www.microsoft.com/licensing/index/worldwide.asp to find contact information in their locations.http://www.virmansec.com/blogs/skhairuddin

Hello, what you see is expected AFAIK and only a reinstall can solve it. You are maybe able to change it with system install/repair after booting from the installation disk. If you choose the repair process go on with language/keyboard etc. If it works you should be able to enter a license key this way also. BUT DO NOT TRY IT WITHOUT HAVING AN UP TO DATE BACKUP OF THE SERVER, SO YOU CAN RESTORE IN CASE SOMETHING FAILS!!! Also kep in mind that this way is not supported from Microsoft and no, MVPs doesn't belong to Microsoft.Best regards Meinolf Weber Disclaimer: This posting is provided "AS IS" with no warranties or guarantees , and confers no rights.
