How to set up DNS to access internet from Windows 2008 Server
Hi; I have set up windows 2008 server, original release, including the active directory services. Included was the automatic setting up DNS. Now, when I start up server 2008, when I try to access the internet, I am not able to. The message says, "Unable to reach www.microsoft.com, using DNS. The Domain Server may be down". Well, I already have DNS installed after I installed active directory services. In the system tray, I see the network connection, including that little blue globe icon, which seems to indicate that DNS is running, yet I can't still access the internet. Is there some configuration of DNS missing?

The DNS server you install as part of installing AD only resolves things associated with AD. It is important that all AD machines use this DNS to find AD resources. To enable it it also resolve "foreign" URLs you need to configure your DNS server to forward to a public DNS server, such as your ISP or a public service like 4.2.2.2 . You do that from the DNS mmc.Bill

It did. I followed the instructions on configuring a dns server to forward queries to resolve names to ip address in order to access the internet and it worked. Thanks alot.
