How to make a clean restore on Windows Server 2008 R2
I have a backup image made by windows server backup feature on my server 2008 r2. But I don't know how to rollback the server to this image. Here is the scenario. I failed to install a programe and the installer leaves many trash files on my server. Unfortunately, I cannot remove these files by uninstall this program. So I wish to rollback it to what it was before this incident. But when I tried to use windows server backup feature to do a restore, it just copied the original files from the backup image to the disk without removing the trash files. The worse thing is I chose not to overwrite the existed file so files name started with "2010-xx-xx xx-xx Copy of" are everywhere in the server now. As I can only reach the server via remote desktop (it is a VPS). I wonder how I can do a clean restore on it. Any tools or workaround will be much appreciated. Regards, D
