How to increase KMS current count
Dear all, Recently i've setup a single KMS host. The installation process ran succesfully, TCP port for KMS is opened - use standard port 1688, SRV record is created. The thing is my domained PC (Windows 7) cannot activate using the KMS host. If i trigger activation manually (slmgr /ato) I got error 0xC004F038 saying that the count reported by KMS is sufficient. In the eventvwr, 12289 event showing that the expected count is 25, my KMS host counter is still at 14. I search solutions for this and the answer is by increase the counter. The thing is how do i do that when i cannot active more client? Thanks for the help. Best regards.

Sounds like your KMS server just hasn't reached the activation threshold yet. http://technet.microsoft.com/en-us/library/ff793434.aspx Tony www.activedir.org blog:www.open-a-socket.com

Hi, the number of Windows Clients much be 25, or the KMS will not begin issuing activations for Windows Clients. (Windows Client = Vista/7/8) If you do not have 25, none will become activated. If you will never have 25, then KMS is not the best solution for you. If you will not have 25, you should really use MAK instead of KMS. Note that the 25, can be comprised of Server OS too. e.g. If you have 10 Server OS, plus 15 Client OS, this is the 25 you need.Don (Please take a moment to "Vote as Helpful" and/or "Mark as Answer", where applicable. Hello, either 25 client OS or 5 Windows server OS are required for KMS to work, If you don't can end in this numbers use MAK instead KMS. http://technet.microsoft.com/en-us/library/ff793434.aspxBest regards Meinolf Weber MVP, MCP, MCTS Microsoft MVP - Directory Services My Blog: http://msmvps.com/blogs/mweber/ Disclaimer: This posting is provided AS IS with no warranties or guarantees and confers no rights.

Hello Don - tesgroup, "If you have 10 Server OS, plus 15 Client OS, this is the 25 you need" This is NOT correct. Either 5 Windows Server OR 25 Client OS are required.Best regards Meinolf Weber MVP, MCP, MCTS Microsoft MVP - Directory Services My Blog: http://msmvps.com/blogs/mweber/ Disclaimer: This posting is provided AS IS with no warranties or guarantees and confers no rights.

Hi Tony, The current count on my KMS host is 14, does it mean i just have to wait till it reach 25? I am a bit confuse here since i see that the Request Received showing 54 request, but the counter stuck at 14. Thanks. From memory, the 54 will include multiple requests from the same clients. Yes, you will need to wait until the unique count reaches 25 (workstations) or 5 (servers).Tony www.activedir.org blog:www.open-a-socket.com

Hello Meinolf, Actually Don - tesgroup is correct. the count is the combination of Windows KMS clients either server or client machines that is used. There is only one count for Windows, so 10 server plus 15 client machines will be 25 machines. As for the count of 54, you can look at the CMID's in the KMS HOST event log. Look at the event 12290, the count is based on the unique CMIDS, that contacted the KMS host in the past 30 days. After 30 days, machines age out of the count unless they renew which would be new 12290 event. Thanks, Darrell Gorter [MSFT] This posting is provided "AS IS" with no warranties, and confers no rights. Hi all, The current count on KMS host has just reached 25 by today, but the Request with License status : Licensed is 0, i thought this value should be increase if the client activation process was successful...or it will take sometimes? Thanks for the advice.

Thanks for the advice. "Request with License status:Licensed" is when an activated client, requests a renewal. it will take 7 days for an activated client to request a renewal, so you should see this counter begin to increase then. you can try to re-activate an already-activated client, to see if this causes an increase: on a client, execute: slmgr.vbs /ato Don (Please take a moment to "Vote as Helpful" and/or "Mark as Answer", where applicable.
