How to change the DNS Update Time

Dear Server Expert,

our AD is using Windows Server 2008 R2. Currently AD, DNS, and DHCP are actually hosted under this server.

We have multiple different VLAN and we separate between Wired and WIFI VLAN. the wired VLANs are obtaining their DHCP from the AD, whereby the WIFI VLAN are obtaining the DHCP from the wireless controller.

Sometimes, when I would like to ping to the hostname to check on the clients computer, I can't get thru because user might has changed from wired to wifi and the dns need time to update.

how should I change or modify the dns update timing to faster for this?

Thanks.

Hi Henry,

I suppose we could try to configure on DHCP server.

  1. Open DHCP console and expand DHCP server.
  2. Right click on IPv4 and click Properties.
  3. Click DNS tab and select Discard A and PTR records when lease is delated.
  4. Click OK to exit.

Best Regards,
