How to calculate the needed disk space when deploying an W 2k8 CA?
When deploying the MS 2k8 CA in cluster, a shared storage must be provisioned (SAN storage). How can i determine (calculate) the shared storage requirments? On http://technet.microsoft.com/en-us/library/cc778985(WS.10).aspx?ppud=4 the following are specified "In general, every certificate that you issue requires 17 kilobytes (KB) in the database and 15 KB in the log file." but in the entire lifecycle of a CA there are more operations to be performed (failed requests, revoked certificates).

How many certificates are you planning on issuing. Except for the very largest organizations, disk space for the AD CS database is generally a non-issue. Assume that the 32 kb for an issued certificate (database space and log file) applies to all entries in the database. Even if you had over a million entries in the database, you're still only looking at around 30 GB of disk space. Do you anticipate having a million or more entries in your AD CS database? Hi. Thank you for your answer. The old CA for organization has ~37000 entries in the "issued certficates" and this CA is up for 4 years. for a 20 Years CA would be ~185000 entries. the scope of PKI will extend with the new deployed CA but is hard for me that 1milion number will be reached. so i think that 30 GBs suffice. Thank you, Victor
