How to backup a DC 2008?
Hi all, I need to install a new 2k8 and promote it to a root domain in a new forest. I performed a system state backup for my old DC (old forest). I restored this backup to my new DC and the new DC cannot boot anymore. What should i do? I also tried to copy the NTDS folder from my old DC to the new one (while in DSRM) but without success. Note: I gave the new DC the same as the old one and also i created the new domain with same name as the old one. Hello, to get you correct the old DC is also Windows server 2008 as the new one should be? Why didn;t you install the new server as additional DC in the existing domain as you will keep all settings the same? http://technet.microsoft.com/en-us/library/cc730683(WS.10).aspx http://technet.microsoft.com/en-us/library/cc754472(WS.10).aspx Using the ntds.dit file for restore isn't possible. Hi, Since it is the DC, please backup Active Directory first, clean install a new DC on the new computer and then perform an authoritative or non-authoritative restore of AD. For more information, please refer to the following article: http://technet.microsoft.com/en-us/library/cc785849(WS.10).aspx http://technet.microsoft.com/en-us/magazine/2008.05.adbackup.aspx?pr=blog http://support.microsoft.com/kb/249694 Best Regards DalePlease remember to click Mark as Answer on the post that helps you, and to click Unmark as Answer if a marked post does not actually answer your question.
