Hello, In conjunction to Issac, please also see this KB
http://support.microsoft.com/kb/323445
Start the DNS snap-in. To do this, click Start, point to Administrative Tools, and then click DNS.
Click the DNS Server object for your server in the left pane of the console, and then expand the server object to expand the tree.
Right-click Forward Lookup Zones, and then click New Zone. The New Zone Wizard starts. Click Next to continue.

Hello,Can you clarify your question more. If I understand properly, your followup questions says you have only one domain controller and you created a domain but the domain is not found in AD and youcan't see it in the forest? In that case, how did you create the new domain myd2.local? Did you run dcpromo, did you have dns installed on the server as well?On the server please run at command prompt, dcdiag /v and post to the forumIsaac Oben MCITP:EA, MCSE

I have both AD DS and DNS server installed.I have added New Zone from DNS serverand there it exists, but I expectedalso in AD.When I run dcpromo it only gives me an option to delete domain myd1.localSorry, I am not at this time near a WS2008 machine so I will run dcdiag later.Maybe I am asking beginners question, but this is what I want actually.I have first created domain myd1.local (WS2008 is in that domain) and I have a clients that will join that domain. Then I wanted to create second domain myd2.local domain on same server that other clients will join. Both domains I want to control in AD DS, but I don't see domain myd2.local in it.Is that possible to make it work? Thanks.

Hello moxol,No, It is not possible. You can only have one domain controller per server. If you need to add a second domain myd2.local, then you will need an additional server for that purpose. The option you get to delete domain myd1.local is correct. if you need to promote the current server to be myd2.local, then you MUST first remove/delete myd1.local. I am not sure if you are having a test or production environmet...If this is a test network, I will suggest you download and install MS virtual PC where you can insatll more than one OS and achieve your purpose. But if this is production, then you will need to buy an addittional hardware or you can make use of the w2k8 virtualization feature.Hope this helps,Isaac Oben MCITP:EA, MCSE

Yes, it is possible to create subdomain in the same forest instead of a separate domain on a different forest.Isaac Oben MCITP:EA, MCSE

My idea was to create separate domain in same forest, not in different forest. Is it the same process (New Zone) for creating subdomain?

Hello Moxol,To create a subdomain for your myd1.local forest, add a new server and then configure a fix IP and make Pri DNS as the myd1.local IP. The run dcpromo and follow prompt..For example myd1.local is first domain and myd2.myd1.local will be the subdomain.Isaac Oben MCITP:EA, MCSE
