How do you prevent Server Manager from showing up for specific users in Server 2008 R2?
How do you prevent Server Manager from showing up for specific users in Server 2008 R2? Sorry to ask so many questions today. Learning a lot myself, especially transitioning from MCSE to learning the newer server technology and eventually obtainnig MCITP. I have a client that has a 2008 R2 server and it keeps popping up for all of the individual users. If you need further information please let me know what you need. Thanks. -Tim.

You can do it by registry change Do not open Server Manager at logon HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Server Manager 0 to disable and open the window normally; 1 to enable and prevent the window from opening. Do not open Initial Configuration Tasks at logon HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Server Manager\oobe 0 to disable and open the window normally; 1 to enable and prevent the window from opening. There is a Task Scheduler task named ServerManager that runs %windir%\system32\ServerManagerLauncher.exe at logon. You can delete the task. Regards, Dave Patrick .... Microsoft Certified Professional Microsoft MVP [Windows]

You can disable it using group policies. Just go to Computer Configuration\Administrative Templates\System\Server Manager and enable "Do not display Server Manager automatically at logon". Once done, link the group policy to the OU containing your wanted servers. Remark: This will be applied on all the users logging on these servers. If you will proceed like Krystian suggested, I recommand to you to backup your system state before proceeding. Wrong registry modifications may cause severe problems. Hi, Computer Configuration\Administrative Templates\System\Server Manager Do not display Server Manager automatically at logon For your information, if you enable this policy setting, Server Manager is not displayed automatically when an administrator logs on to the server. If you disable this policy setting, Server Manager is displayed automatically when an administrator logs on to the server. If you do not configure this policy setting, Server Manager is displayed when an administrator logs on to the server. However, if the "Do not show me this console at logon" option is selected, the console is not displayed automatically at logon. Thanks.
