Every time I attempt to open explorer or any office files I get a dialog box that says the files don't have any .exe file associated with them.

What operating system and service pack? Can you post the error text unedited? This really sounds malware related. I'm guessing shortcut .LNK doesn't work either. In Add/Remove Programs (or Programs and Features) Click on your Office installation and click Change. From there you should be able to run a repair.
