How do I check if conditional forwarder is working?
I set up only one dns server ip (ISP dns server) in conditional forwarder (Server 2008 DC) before. When I tried to click download virtual server from the below URL, it displayed error page that couldn't find the page. http://www.microsoft.com/download/en/details.aspx?displaylang=en&id=2994 Then I add one more dns server ip (ISP dns server) in conditional forwarder lists. I can download the virtual server setup.exe on next day. I don't know why. So how can I check if conditional forwarders's lists is working well? Thanks.

Hello, why are you using conditional forwarding? You have to use forwarders as you don't seems to have a need to forward DNS requests for a certain domain to a specific DNS server. Add your ISP DNS servers as forwarders and use recursive request test to check that all is okay with them. you can also use nslooup for check. Hi Eco If you take a look at http://technet.microsoft.com/en-us/library/cc754941.aspx it will tell you the procedure of setting the forwarder. Please remember to click Mark as Answer on the post that helps you, and to click Unmark as Answer if a marked post does not actually answer your question. in the original post you had, the other user was correct in saying to remove the dns of your ISP ip from your ipconfig, they just got the bit wrong about the forwarder, let us know how you get on. Actually, we don't find any problem after adding additional ISP's dns server IP in the conditional forwarders. For the general or common settings, should I put ISP's dns server ip in the forwarders instead of conditional forwarders? Many thanks.

Hi EcoAxis, Thank you for your post. Just put ISP DNS server ip in DNS forwarders, clean up records in DNS conditional forwarders. Generally, conditional forwarders are used for multi-domain in internal network If there are more inquiries on this issue, please feel free to let us know. Regards, Rick Tan
