Hi, Service Pack is generally installed by the package installer known as Update.exe. The package installer has been in use for a number of years servicing the operating system, and recently other teams at Microsoft adopted the installer to service their products. A service pack is usually the largest of the update packages. In general, a service pack contains all of the updates released since the previous service pack or Release to Market (RTM) version of the product. Like the other types of update packages, the service pack contains the installer, the supporting files for the installer, and the payload. Microsoft ships service packs and updates in a single executable, which contains all of the necessary files as, mentioned above, including the install logic and registry changes. When the package is executed without any command-line switches, it extracts the contents of the package to a temporary folder, then executes the installer (Update.exe) and proceeds to install the update. The common function the installer to install a Service Pack is: For example, to install Windows 2000 SP4, run W2ksp4.exe. This extracts the installation files for the service pack. Update.exe then automatically runs and installs the service pack. Thanks.
