Hosting parent domain DNS on a child domain AD server

Hi all

Currently we have a AD (Server A) hosting domain.com which is also serving also as DNS server (hosting AD-integrated DNS zone of domain.com as well as other domains' zone files via Pri Zone - abc.com, xyz.com).

We have another AD (Server B) hosting child.domain.com which serves DNS function (host.child.domain.com)

We do not need Server A anymore and can decommission domain.com as all clients will now join child.domain.com. However we need to continue to host DNS records for domain.com as it is pointing to some applications.

Can we host DNS records of domain.com on the AD Server B (AD for child.domain.com) and host them as pri zone files together with the other domains - abc.com , xyz.com)?

Thanks in advance!

As per my understand "domain.com" is the ROOT domain and "child.domain.com" is the child domain. You can not demote server A (root domain). DNS delegation will be completely demolished.

THAT WONT WORK.

When we promoted a child domain , DNS delegation is created automatically in windows 2008 & need to create manuaaly in 2003.

Yes you can create that but if DNS is the concern you can create secondary, stub or conditional forwader as well. What are you trying to accomplish?

Can you post "nltest /DOMAIN_TRUSTS /v".
