Home drives not mapping
We have 2 fileservers. One running Storage Server 2003 and one running Storage Server 2008. We have most of our users on the new file server now but more often than not, it takes a long time to log in (stuck on 'please wait for user profile service') and it doesn't map the user's home drive (which is mapped via the user property in AD). At random times it works though. If the user has a home directory pointing to the old fileserver it logs in straight away and maps the drive. We have checked group policy for logon optimization but it isn't that. On the new fileserver there are random errors in the event log - Source - SRMSVC, File server resource manager failed to enumerate share paths or dfs paths. Mappings from local file paths to share and DFS paths may be incompatible or temporarily unavailable. FSRM will retry the operation at a later time. 0x80070842. Is this a known issue?

I did see that but does that just remove the error or does it fix the issue with the home drive not mapping?

first of all try to change that suggested registry key and verify if problema disappears. another likely cause could be linked to windows backup. do you use windows backup on win2k8 ?Edoardo Benussi - Microsoft MVP Management Infrastructure - Systems Administration https://mvp.support.microsoft.com/Profile/Benussi Windows Server Italian Forum Moderator edo[at]mvps[dot]org

I will try the key. We do not use Windows Backup, we use DPM

I updated the TMG client as well as applying the registry entry and it has been working fine since. Fingers crossed!

The problem has come back. It was working fine for 2 and a half weeks!! The registry entry hasn't been removed so can't see any other solution

Hello Ipsschool, Is there any 3rd party software installed on the problematic computer? Did you enable roaming profile on the computer? Can you paste the full event information including event id to the forum? Meanwhile, please enable userenv debug log and restart the problematic computer , then upload userenv log to the SkyDrive for further troubleshooting.
