High Range FTP ports used by Windows Server 2008 R2?
Hello All, I have a server running Windows Server 2008 R2 Datacenter, the server is being used to house a Server based application that utilizes the Windows FTP services to transfer files from an AIX server to the server in question. This works fine when I have the Network Firewall and Local firewall on the Windows site set to allow all incoming TCP to the server, unfortunately I cannot leave the server and network this way. I was trying to find out the Range of High Range ports that Windows uses to negotiate a port with the FTP server when using Active mode so I can open those ports on the local and network firewall. I came across this MS KB article http://support.microsoft.com/kb/832017 mentioning that the high range TCP ports used for Windows 2008 FTP service are 49152-65535, however I did come across an entry in my firewall log that was using a 33000 range port. Any assistance in determining what to open on my firewalls is greatly appreciated, as the vendor has essentially told me that windows controlls it and it's not their problem. -Thanks Curtiplas
