Help Configuring Windows Server 2003
Hi all, I am the technician in a school in Wigston. We have recently bought a new server running Windows 2003 Server. I have set it up and added a 'Student Test' Account to check if it was working. It was all fine, had the correct policies and security settings. I then added one year group into the Active Directory and set up there accounts, profiles etc. When I came to check one of them it logged on locally without any policies, I then tried the Student Test account which worked fine early, that did the same. I decided to remove my self from the domain and then recconnect.......however I can now not do this. I'm not too sure which domain to type (its either 'abington' or 'abington.net') not sure what the difference is! If I type in abington.net i get the following error message : A domain Controller for the domain abington.net could not be contacted. Note: This information is intended for a network administrator. If you are not your network's administrator, notify the administrator that you received this information, which has been recorded in the file C:\WINDOWS\debug\dcdiag.txt. The following error occurred when DNS was queried for the service location (SRV) resource record used to locate a domain controller for domain abington.net: The error was: "DNS name does not exist." (error code 0x0000232B RCODE_NAME_ERROR) The query was for the SRV record for _ldap._tcp.dc._msdcs.abington.net Common causes of this error include the following: - The DNS SRV record is not registered in DNS. - One or more of the following zones do not include delegation to its child zone: abington.net net . (the root zone) For information about correcting this problem, click Help. If I type in 'abington' It asks me for a username and password straight away, which looks promising but after about 1 minute I get the following message : The following error occured attempting to join the domain "abington": The Network Path was not found. Any ideas people? I could really do with some help on this one!! Cheers guys!!!!

You need to be joined to the domain, not sure what you mean "removed self from the domain..?"
Several possible reasons:
1. You're typing the name of the domain wrong OR
2. You need to create a delegation which means create two DNS records, an A and an NS record on the DNS server histing the '.' zone if that server is mamaged by you. If its managed by an ISP then see 3 below
3. You need to ensure that the Windows Server is configured with a DNS server that ahs the same IP address as the Domain controller running DNS for abington
