Help! DHCP client service cannot start.
Hi, when I upgrade my windows 2003 based DC to 2008 using in place upgrade method, everything works fine except the DHCP client and the diagnostic policy service refused to start. The error message is access is denied and both are using Local service as the system account. Anyone has any idea what is wrong? Cheers

Hi, Based on my research, this problem occurs because the Network Service account does not have sufficient permissions to access the following registry subkeys when you upgrade to Windows Server 2008: HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SYSTEM\CurrentControlSet\Services\Dhcp HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SYSTEM\CurrentControlSet\Services\Tcpip To solve it, you can assign the corresponding permissions by editing registry or Group Policy. More information, please refer to: The DHCP Client service does not start after you upgrade a Windows 2000 Server-based domain controller to Windows Server 2003 http://support.microsoft.com/kb/895149/en-us NOTE: As serious problems might occur if you modify the registry incorrectly, please refer to the following KB article to back up the registry before you modify it: How to back up and restore the registry in Windows http://support.microsoft.com/kb/322756/en-us I hope this helps.
